The value of having an AA2A artist in residence in college...

Its been a while since I have blogged (if thats a term?!) anyways although I am totally busy with getting evrything done for the final hand ins for my degree I feel I can't miss the opportunity to write about the latest presentation from one of Blackpool and Fylde's college resident AA2A artists, Iain H Williams. This took place on Thursday 20th April in our lecture theatre.

Iain led us on a journey of where he began, from his first studio at 'The Old Custard Factory' (apologies I forgot to take note of where this was) and how his work evolved from portraiture into abstraction. It was all so interesting and i was taking notes but please don't quote me because this info maybe mixed up. Iain, as an AA2A artist is on here to check out and definately worth a look!

Anyways back to his presentation. He shared an insight into his practice, how his work has developed and evolved and different materials he uses. It was particularly interesting and valuable to hear about his commissioned wood panel pieces along with a whole list of galleries and exhibition spaces.

As well as this he shared very valuable information (particularly relevant  for my C.P.D. file) including setting up as a freelance artist and what it entails. Also tax information, applying for a UTR no, public liability, risk assessments and creating a website. I have been learning about this in the Professional Practice module, however when someone shares their lived experience of how they went about it, for me it becomes much more relatable and thats is just one of the values of having resident artists within your college or uni. Thankyou Iain :-)
