Project summary:

My current work has primarily been functional decorative textile pieces but over the years it is becoming more abstract, a response to a time and space. As a freelance practitioner working in schools, colleges and community groups this have evolved the way I now work and how it influences my own practice. I would like to use the AA2A scheme to drawn on my experiences but use the time to explore and develop a new body of work. The freedom to experiment and explore concepts outside my current practice will focus my work to give it a new direction.

Currently my work is divided between mono/screen printing on fabrics and hand felted 3d/wall hanging. Initially I hope to develop new ideas through the access and facilities at Hull College to create a series of work on a larger scale and work towards installations by putting themes into a different context. I would like to develop screen printing ideas onto felted fabric pieces which I have held back due to lack of space in my studio (no long printing table and wet area). Having the opportunity to take part in the scheme would allow me to access these facilities in the print making and textile’s department.

Overall I hope by being in an educational environment will drive my work to new level and I hope my experiences can be of some benefit to follow students at Hull College.
