Welcome to the AA2A newsletter.  As you’re probably aware the Artists Access to Art Colleges project is a national set of schemes, providing more than 120 visual artists and designer makers with the opportunity to undertake a period of research or realise a project, using workshop and supporting facilities in over 30 fine art and design departments of Higher and Further Education institutions.  AA2A is a flexible opportunity, giving large numbers of artists the opportunity to develop their work.  For more about AA2A visit http://AA2A.org

Latest project news

We've recently applied for funding from Arts Council, England’s Grants for the Arts Lottery to run our schemes and projects in 2012/13. We should know the level of our funding by the end of April so we can confirm our new list of host institutions in May.

Fundraising campaign

We will be starting a major fundraising effort in the next week or two to raise the £4,500 needed as part of our funding agreement for 2011/12.  This will involve us expanding the AA2A Dotbiz artists networking site, inviting previous artists to join and offering training materials. We also welcome donations on our website, for more information go to http://aa2a.org/supportus/donate

AA2A Membership scheme

Soon we will be launching a new, free membership scheme for current and ex-AA2A artists.  The aim is to create a larger AA2A community by getting back in touch with the 1,200 past artists who have been on a scheme in the last 12 years.  We will provide members with information and opportunities to support and direct the project.

Timetable for 2012/13

We are accepting applications from new institutions wanting to host an AA2A scheme and will confirm our new College list in May.  The deadlines for artists to apply for a place on an AA2A scheme vary between institutions, but all are in September, with all schemes beginning during October and running until April.  We expect to have at least 30 institutions taking part, providing good geographical coverage of the country.

Pic of the Week’ on Twitter and facebook

Our ‘Pic of the Week’ and news post on our AA2A Twitter page now appear as ‘news feeds’ on both our websites.  This has greatly increased our following (currently almost 600 in total for facebook and Twitter) and increases exposure for those images we choose from our Dotbiz networking site each week.  You can ‘like’ us on facebook and follow us on Twitter to stay up to date.  On Twitter you can also subscribe to our lists; AA2A Artists 2011/12, Previous Artists and  Institutions.

Vote for your favourite Artist of 2012

You'll find a link to 'Vote for this artist' on every artist's page on Dotbiz. There’s also a separate vote for students from AA2A colleges.  For more information visit  http://aa2a.org/artistvote.  Voting closes at the end of May.

AA2A Student interaction

It’s our aim to increase student benefit by encouraging interaction between artists and students.  Artists regularly give talks about their work, give demonstrations and put on exhibitions.  A great example is Georgia Peskett at Chesterfield College, who ran a Drypoint Workshops with Students.  This year we have 18 AA2A student reps at host institutions around the country - this means they have profiles on Dotbiz allowing them to blog, upload images and interact with artists. The Reps have posted some fantastic image albums: we were particularly impressed by...

‘Graduate Pack’

We are in the throws of putting together information aimed at students graduating from our AA2A institutions.  The pack will cover the national organisations we, and our artists think are important for early careen artists to know about.  We hope this help them with the transition from study to earning a living from their practice.
