About me:

I am nearly 56 years old. I started painting and drawing as a kid and have never really stopped. It took some years to stop trying to paint and draw as I thought it should be done. I started to draw without thinking about what I might want to produce. I still do. I approached painting with the same frame of mind. It isn't easy to switch off to deactivate deliberation, to not chase something that looks good in the offing. With practice though you can get better at it. When I was 40 years old I went to the University of Wolverhampton to design and make furniture. I tried to apply my philosophical approach to painting and drawing to making furniture. Not immediately of course but as I moved on to taking an M. A. I had quite a number of techniques and idiosyncrasies in place to enable me to " jam " a piece of furniture into existence. It would be quite likely that I might think I was making a table and it would finish as a wardrobe. Since leaving University I have returned primarily to making 2d work but much has been gleaned from the techniques used with wood. However there were many avenues left unexplored at University that I wish to return to. Back then I was to make furniture now I want to see what I can do with wood colour and a few machines.
