I am a Textile Artist who previously studied Fashion Print at CSM and more recently an MA in Contemporary Craft at Nottingham Trent University. I choose to use a multi-media approach to my work which combines print, embroidery and weave.
My work originates from a desire to explore narratives from the past that open up experiences with unpredictable outcomes. My MA project - 'Naqsha' was a body of work that mapped my family history.
Trawling through my mother’s tin full of threads and tracings I unravelled memories and found connections with a rich textile heritage of the Kashmir valley. A journey that required me to examine the traumas and uncertainties of displacement through partition; confronting upheavals and adjustments that took place for newer generations to exist and thrive.
I wish to continue exploring narratives of migration and broadening the scope of people's experiences within my work over the course of the residency.
