Laura Taylor

Previous AA2A artist

Brief description: The AA2A will ultimately exacerbate the absurd nature of my practice in full throttle to create incongruous prints and films. The opportunity will develop a series of ideas that I have towards making short films, a flipbook and printed stills (focused on imagery created within the studio). The AA2A will develop a body of printed artwork; the project will document the sculptural artwork I create within the studio. The printed two-dimensional work will initially act as a way of documenting the sculptures, however I aim for the prints to exist as an individual piece of artwork and to stand alone in their own right.

About me:

Each individual work comprises of multifarious recycled objects; the collaboration of materials are developed to create video, drawing, painting and installational work. I satisfy a self‐driven curiosity towards tactile and overt materials. The main component to my practice is through the practical element.  The process of making and inquisitiveness ultimately drives the work. I Invent mechanisms, sculptures and drawings, which appear precarious, but are ultimately humorous and slapstick. The choices of objects within my practice are wholly arbitrary. My practice is not a mathematical observation and I do not wish to solve or determine the future outcome. The work is influenced by whimsical machinery from Heath Robinson, Rube Goldberg and the absurd humour of comedians Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer. The slapstick nature of Charlie Chaplin Is also present within the videos.
