About me:

I am currently absorbed in interpreting character, mood, and energy of urban centres, working through two strands of my practice.

The first strand of my work is semi abstract mixed media painting, which I first explored in my MA project studying Blackpool’s intensively developed shoreline. After completing the MA I took the mixed media painting approach further through a long term project that explored and reinterpreted urban settlements along the length of the Bridgwater Canal. The work that emerged from this project has since been exhibited in solo shows at Sale Waterside Art Centre and the Bank Quay Gallery Warrington.

The second strand to my practice emerged during this last project when making sketches on location, which then evolved as the base material for mixed media works combining linedrawing, screen print and colour wash. This has recently taken me more deeply into studying contrasting urban centres throughout the region, expressing their mood and character through mixed media developments from the original sketches.

My recent work has taken the interest of the Salford City Gallery, who have offered me anexhibition in November 2016 to show both recent work and new work. I intend making new work from studies of urban areas that grew from their association with water courses, withparticular focus on the Salford / Manchester conurbation.

Working on this project in Uclan through the AA2A scheme presents an opportunity to explore the merging of the two strands of my working practice, bringing painting and drawing approaches together in different forms of mixed media.

Just completed running a townscape drawing workshop at the Abbot Hall Gallery in Kendal to complement their current exhibition of Canaletto paintings and drawings from his travels in Britain.

The gallery have now offered me an exhibition in their gallery cafe to show my mixed media townscapes in January to march next year. Please to be exhibiting alongside such company !
