About me:

I am an artist printmaker, whose atmospheric colour, intricate texture, and distinctive imagery conveys my emotions and feelings about the natural world. In my artistic methods and processes I draw on techniques that combine mixed media and painterly, innovative printmaking, including collagraphy, monotype and chine colle. Through these subtly performed combinations I invest the work with metaphorical and emotional associations.

I direct the oscillation between abstract and representational forms that have their sources in nature, emotion and personal human experience. My evocative forms are an invitation to the viewer to take a moment in time to immerse themselves in the visual world created on paper. To discover a personal connection and resonance with the energy of colour, emotion and natural forms.

I have an MA in Fine Art from Lancaster University and lectured on the university’s Fine Art degree programme for a number of years. I also taught innovative printmaking courses at the Brewery Arts Centre in Kendal, as well as a range of workshops for groups around the Lake District and Lancashire. Currently I am a full time artist, committed to developing work in my studio in Cumbria.

Current and Upcoming Exhibitions:

Impressive Perspective, The Old Courthouse Gallery, Shap - Monday 16th October to Saturday 11th November

I am exhibiting work with fellow members of Impress Printmakers at an exciting new gallery space in an historic, Victorian courthouse. The Exhibition showcases the Impress artist printmakers unique interpretations of texture, pattern and landscape forms and structures that indicate human intervention in the natural world.

Green Door at the Merz, The Merz Barn, Elterwater - Sunday 24th September to Thursday 12th October 2017

As part of the Green Door Studio I am exhibiting pieces inspired by Kurt Schwitters alongside Green Door artists at Schwitters' famous studio in Elterwater, The Merz Barn.

In one of my pieces I reference the papery territory of Schwitters and his use of the discarded debris of the every day. For example, by taking faded paper patterns used in dressmaking and collaging them to create another layer of meaning. These opaque, ghostly papers refer to previous identities of the wearer. The garments carefully constructed from the paper patterns have been shed along with the previous selves that inhabited them. I use collage materials to contrast the mechanical nature of the lines imprinted on the paper patterns compared with the fluid, intuitive contours of the figures.
