You Can't Shake Hands With A Clenched Fist - Experiments in Textured Backgrounds

As I am nearing the end of the main bulk of design planning (still got a long way to go with the 'actual' prints however) and to utilise the 'odd half hour' spare before I clear up the screen print, I am allowing myself some much needed and craved for experimenting with mark making.

I have been collecting onion bags (the large bags in orange netting) with the idea that they'd make a great textural background when 'run over' through the screen. The outcome of this led onto testing the effect of scrim being pressed through the screen, which to be specific becoms mono-printing and no screen printing. Next came combining methods. 1. Printing the onion bag, then overlaying expressive marks once the onion bag layer had dried. 2. Drawing onto newsprint using similar marks, then cutting away at the marks to create a stensil and overlaying this stensil over the onion bag print. 3. Mixing scrim mono printing with stensils and mark making.

This album contains these experiments.
