Do you want the good news or the bad ?

May 16, 2017 by Adrian Baynes   Comments (1)

Okay the good news :

I`ve sold six of my "They came in the night with ladders " prints & twelve of my dinner plate wall reliefs.

Bad news: Failed to get in RA Summer Show (again), not selected for a further three other Open competitions, sigh ! Just got the annual Jerwood Drawing Prize to go & then I`m going to give up.Mind you I always say that.

Flying Solo

Its a strange experience seeing all your work in a gallery, rather than just one or two. I feel a bit exposed. Its taken me two days to hang twenty seven works & I don`t ever want to fix rows of dinner plates again. There is nothing like having a couple of year`s work on show to bring home reality.

Tonight is the private view & I`m quite nervous. Do you think I should wear something smart or just be understated & blend into the background ? I know which I`d prefer.

Perhaps no one will come. Come on be positive. Its going to great, yeah its going to be great......

Vacuum sucks

December 8, 2016 by Adrian Baynes   Comments (0)

So you spend a day making a pattern, carving the indentations & punching holes. The vacuum former is reserved & technician on hand. Heater on, check. Plastic cut, check. Timer set, check. Burnt a hole straight through it, check. Back to the drawing board, check. The glories of AA2A that you can take risks, make mistakes & push the boundaries. All the things that contribute to making good art, not safe art.

Boo hoo

Getting it out there

November 15, 2016 by Adrian Baynes   Comments (0)

With fellow AA2A artists Matt Evans & Caitriona Dunnett, we`ve decided to make a bit of an impact with the Coventry students. What better than to stage an exhibition in the University`s Glass Box Gallery. How do you make the impact ? Easy, the show`s called  "BOO !"

Its viewable 24 hours a day in Earl Street, from 16th to 29th November.

I`m back & this time I mean business .....

October 23, 2016 by Adrian Baynes   Comments (0)

Yes Coventry Uni left the key under the mat, so I`ve slipped back in.  Made quite a bit of work last time & this time I`m going for quantity. I think quantity is greatly underrated. I`m working on the principle that if you make enough at least one piece will turn out well. Oh and I`m going to make an even bigger mess than last time.

So there I was, smugly watching all the third years` stressing as they prepared their degree show. Then Rachelle sweetly drops the bombshell. "Would you like to exhibit alongside the students ?" Panic stations. Walls to tape & emulsion, power, lighting, select work, framing, hanging. I must say its a really great gesture from Coventry & us AA2A ers are grateful. Now I remember what it feels like, just glad we don`t get marked. Do we ?
