Previous AA2A Artist

Tom Smith

Year:
2011-12
Project summary:

My working process uses digital sources, reconstructing, programming, ordering and remixing familiar films, images, styles, models and objects. Recently I have been looking at how the Internet and its associated technology has changed our relationship with history. This has led me to propose a work using Augmented Reality.

AR technology brings with it a further development in our relationship with history through mass media. AR users can place works in any location they wish whether it be public or private without the need for permission. My plan is to develop a Augmented Reality Artwork that will be located in or near to Chelsea College that deals with these ideas.

I hope this project will be of interest to staff and students alike and will welcome any input while actively seeking feed back through a planned talk/seminar.

Tom studied Fine Art at Central Saint Martins and the Royal College of Art respectively. He has lectured at Kingston University, UCL Canterbury, Solent University, and Central St Martins. He was awarded the Stanley Picker Tutorship at Kingston University in 2007.
