Project summary:

My proposed project ‘a Practiced Place’ has been constantly developed by the production of new iterations, made in response to different locales. Over the course of its development, the outputs of ‘a Practiced Place’ have been shown as four different collections, each following my participation in an artist-in-residence programme.

I would like to include my time and creation at Buckinghamshire New University as part of the place-responsive collection. Following an initial survey at the beginning of the AA2A scheme, I will begin to make repeat visits to intuitively chosen places, walking and constantly returning during the residency period. Photography will be used every day in the fieldwork to record the places’ changing conditions, and the features with varying degrees of legibility. Then I will review the photo series comparatively in order to identify changes as the series grows. In thinking about their conjunction with idea of place-hood, I will seek to forge my own creative process that could methodologically present a place-in-change in spatial and temporal form.

A key technical aspect of my project is the testing of drawing, digital printing, and screenprinting on a variety of substrates to explore their various combinations, adding new relevant methods. During my time at the Buckingham New University, I would like to develop my work particularly across new methods – a layered condition by 3D printing and ceramics that I can use from the workshops at the Buckinghamshire New University. Since I will use this opportunity to test a new process, the outcomes will show a process rather than a finished work. I would like to share the whole process, including my research, test, and methodologies, with students and hope to present this at the end of the scheme.
