Project summary:

I am currently working in collaboration with a writer on an immersive live art piece that explores contemporary themes in a Vanitas style through two mythical figures (Philomel and Tiresias) from Ovid’s Metamorphoses. It has been funded through Arts Council England and the final performance piece is part of the annual Off the Shelf Literature Festival in Sheffield.  The final piece will take place in October/November this year and will comprise of an installation and immersive performances. It will use poetry, film, photography, soundscape and live performance to explore the notion of metamorphosis, connection to the landscape, the primal forces of emotion in nature in relation to contemporary issues of power and control, containment and punishment, gender identity, language and silence, trauma and recovery with relevance to current political landscapes emerging within the UK, Europe and Trans national events.

The piece will be a ‘live’ event and accompanying exhibition. The piece has gained sponsorship from Sheffield’s Off the Shelf Festival of Words and will be performed at Theatre Delicatessen, Bank St Arts and Exchange Place Studios gallery. It is called Lady of Situations and following this piece, I would like to explore more ‘Ladies of Situations’ through live art, video and performance
