Engage Artist

Sarah Mander

Year:
2013-14
Location:
Southampton, England
Influences:
Peter Wray
Project summary:

I am an Artist/Printmaker in 2004 I set up and continue to ran Red Hot Press Print workshop in Southampton UK.

In my work I convey a moment in time, a memory, or my observations of my surroundings particularly when traveling. I may be observing weather and lighting conditions on trees or taking inspiration from photographs I've taken of animals captured in time. My work is about stillness, contemplation and time. I work mainly in intaglio printmaking techniques because I like the infinite textures, emboss and rich surfaces that can be achieved with these techniques.

Over the past 12 months I have begun to explore the potential of photographic etching (solar plate etching) in my work and teaching. This has been at a basic level, exploring different equipment and photographic materials and analysing the results. Now that I have completed this first stage and settled upon the photographic materials I wish to use. I want to fully explore the potential of this technique. This may include combining this technique with other techniques within printmaking and photography.
