I would like to refocus my practice around producing hand-pulled CMYK screenprints that are interpretations of my own photographic images.
I have a strong relationship with Sunderland venue/community hub Pop Recs, and we have talked about producing a bespoke zine or series of prints, which I would be keen to produce at University of Sunderland as part of the AA2A opportunity. This would involve some elements of graphic design, photography, manipulation of images (possibly through cyanotype or digital means) and then production of the zine through a mixture of handpulled screenprints and RISO prints.
This opportunity will help develop my work as I currently have no access to a printmaking studio and would love the opportunity to reconnect with printmaking. I own lots of screenprinting equipment, but due to space/storage issues, it is all currently on loan to other people (NewBridge project have my exposure unit, another artist is using my print bed). Being able to work from University of Sunderland would be ideal for me, for instance being less isolated when producing work, opening up new possibilities of collaboration, peer learning, access to top facilities etc. Having the scope to work between departments and develop ways in which my own photographic practice can interplay with my printmaking is something that excites me greatly. Producing a cohesive series of images that combine hand-pulled CMYK prints, graphic-design-oriented RISO prints, and new photographic images that can be collated and presented as a zine in association with Pop Recs (possibly with collected writing contributions from other collaborators) is my intention.
