Project summary:

being, Being. The exploration of Being-in-the-world. An unintended collaboration between philosopher and artist, heavily involved in the relationship between my practice and existential phenomenology. Writing... researching... words... an integral part to my practice, supporting the visual exploring it’s possibilities. The materiality and physicality of performance and process, noticed through nuance and trace, evoking contemplation. Heideggerian terminology lends a unifying and poetic element to my practice, almost sculptural in itself. Exploring these elements of Dasein have become integral to the work. The essences of Being. Authenticity. Dasein.

This opportunity will provide an incredible opportunity to continue working through a wonderful arts institution, with the chance to explore the digital mediums available; studio space, cameras, digital software. In the early stages of my more digital/performative arts career, this access to equipment will be integral to my development as an artist. A journey I really wish to continue! Being surrounded by arts professionals, tutors, students and otherwise likeminded people will give me an opportunity to build up networking connections and encourage conversations and collaborations. In addition, having access to the library and lectures- the FACET talks in particular- will allow me to further research theories and ideas that interest me, and have the potential to improve my knowledge on existential phenomenology, embedding this conceptually into my practice.

The opportunity to spend time within Coventry University will allow me time to research further into my chosen field of Heideggerian phenomenology. It will give me time and space to allow these theories to develop into physical work, building on my current practice. It will also help me to establish myself as a Coventry based artist, creating links and relationships to those that already work within Coventry’s creative groups.
