Project summary:

The specific focus of my residency was to explore the material possibilities of creating elements to a large-scale installation work which has been in conceptual production for nearly two years.

This work entitled ‘Shore Babies’ is to be a multi disciplinary installation that emphasises the accepted structure and belief in the hierarchy of Human importance and the futility inherent in that belief.

Through this scheme I have been able to programme the development of this work and anticipate the final piece, which is an outcome that never would have occurred without the support of the AA2A scheme. The opportunity presented through the AA2A scheme has progressed my Creative Practice in a variety of ways:

- through the initial acceptance which gives credence to an idea’s worth

- through the on hand experience and technical ability to support an extension of a practice that may be beyond immediate experience

- thirdly, and possible most importantly, to become (for however long) a participant in a community that is focused on, and striving for, a creative resolve to the problems of making contemporary art in an ever expanding public and business arena

- through allowing a period of respite from exhibition. Giving the chance to focus on the development of practice rather than the application of work in an exhibition context.
