Project summary:

I undertook a AA2A residency at Sheffield Hallam University 2014 – 2105 where through extensive use of woodwork facilities I was able to transform a rather crude lighting design idea into a sophisticated prototype. The project was overtaken by other commitments subsequent to this but has come to the fore again recently as part of a lighting range currently in development.

Alongside this I have also had the opportunity this year to exhibit my work after quite a long gap. This has come about through having the use of retail unit in Buxton, Derbyshire where I grew up and where I have been largely based since March 2021. The exhibition I conceived in July this year for the Buxton Fringe Festival showcased a selection of the lamps as well as other design ideas. Despite visitor numbers being a little poor due to ongoing restrictions the work was warmly received.

By having access to technical facilities again within an academic environment I believe the work I started at Sheffield can be developed to a professional standard at which point I would be looking to batch produce some of the pieces. I am also keen to stage another exhibition/installation in the region thus building on and consolidating my presence in and around where I am from.

In conjunction with all of this I would be looking to involve and be involved with students as much as possible. Amongst other things, I am keen to give a talk and organise workshops which hopefully will lead to an exhibition of their work also.
