My project with the School of Creative Arts at the University of Hertfordshire involves working with clay to create sculpture. My proposed piece that is tentatively titled Wishing Tree will involve me using clay as my primal material; I will begin making a body-sized dwelling that is shaped like a tree. Branches and leaves from the surrounding area will be casted and added to the work to juxtapose natural elements with sculptural representations of it. When exhibited, visitors will be asked to hold each ceramic piece and make a private wish for themselves, before tying it to the structure. The intension for this work is to negotiate public discourse around the territory, displacement, and emotional interaction; I hope the community around UHArts will put their wishes into this sculpture to consider the sense of the surroundings that we encountered.2019-20
