Project summary:

I will develop my multi sensory focused art practice through research and creating new work. I would like to focus in particuarly on the installation and drawing aspects of my practice. My installations are comprised of sculptures, found objects, video projections, and smells. This work is designed to be interacted with and responded to by participants, enabling me to observe the responses of participants and feed this back into the work. I am interested in creating work that by engaging people with the senses, offers a ‘full’ experience and personal connection to my artwork. My drawing practice is currently dominated by sound. As a way of exploring the act of listening and response, aswell as creating a connection between mind and body that results in a visual outcome, I draw music. I also invite others including musicians, dancers and the general public to draw with me, giving the work a performative element.

I will create new work through experiemnting with new techniques, materials and a new audience that includes students. I will use the universitys librart and lecture programme  to reserach multi sensory art, participation, sound art and drawing to gain a greater understanding of my work in a wider context. I will also make use of the univeritys existing links, including international ones to provide further opportunities to realise projects and exhibitions, and to enable my work to reach a wider audience. These audiences can be involved in my work directly, through participation, and indirectly through making interational links and increasing my online presence including setting up an online journal. I intend to showcase the new work made in the universities installation space and create a participatory event/s around this work.

Working with you - For the first half of my residency I will be developing my music drawings. This includes a participatory music drawing event, using silent disco technology, that will take place on the 27th of January at the music venue Band on the Wall. Musicians, dancers, artists and the general public we be invited to participate. I am interested in meeting visual art, music and sound art staff and students to chat about my work, find out about yours and to find people interested in particiapting in the development stages and final music drawing event. So if you fancy drawing with me or have sound/music I could draw follow me on twitter or join my mailing list to find out when I’m about and what I’m doing.
