Project summary:

My current series of paintings are all centered around urban landscapes in York. Through the use of layers I create definition, while subtle shading adds a sense of ephemerality. These contrasting methods engage the viewer in the landscape that is both rooted in reality but open to interpretation. I would like to expand this body of work where I look at abstracting shapes and shadows to bring into view harmonised urban scenes. Exploring the use of combining flat blocks of colour with more painterly texture that provides shading and depth.

With the development of my painting I would like to learn to strech my own canvas as well as to explore translating my urban landscapes into wood and/or plaster. I feel the geometric nature of my work along with the more painterly aspects explored through mark making would make striking pieces that would compliment the main body of work.

To create a body of work for an exhibition that would include paintings as well as new pieces that keep the integrity of my paintings but push the bounderies. I would also hope I could inspire the students with my determination and dedication as I keep growing and changing in my creative practice.
