Project summary:

I feel myself to be extremely fortunate to be working in weave, which is not only creatively and intellectually demanding but seductive, visceral and hugely satisfying. As an independent textile artist and designer, I have been working with British mills and textile finishers producing mainly silks and unique, highly textural, wool fabrics.

Whilst working on the AA2A scheme, I intend to produce an explorative, documented and repeatable collection of vibrant dobby-woven textiles based on my own artwork and using a wide range of fibres. I am keen to develop a way of working that is less reliant on industrial machinery than some of my recent work.

I come from a family of tailors and milliners, and through my exploration of weave, have finally returned to my textile roots. I never lost my love of fabrics but it has taken a career change and my MA to re-discover this fascinating and ever evolving world. My placement at Derby will give exciting opportunities for me to grow and develop my textile work.
