Beginnings...

I have been into the photographic studios at City College a few times now. The technician, Gideon, offers me assistance if I need it. I admit, to begin with, I was nervous. it had been such a long time since I had worked in this sort of studio. Since then so much has happened. It was as though all my knowledge of how to set up lights, manage exposures, shoot tethered, was laying dormant in a part of my mind that had been locked away. At first I was dumbfounded. But then Quickly it all came back. Soon I found myself in this wonderful space, model lights shining, still life waiting, shooting. What a freedom!

City College is situated right in the middle of town. The arts subjects are housed in a wonderful old Victorian building, with tiled staircases and preposterously high ceilings. Light floods in to classrooms and workshops. Young people walk about with creative purpose. Studios are brimming over with sketches, models, ideas. It's a wonderful place to be thinking about art, making art.
