Library of Independent Exchange (L.I.E) is an independent reference library and project space presenting a selection of the most interesting and significant works by contemporary independent arts publishers and artists. L.I.E develops discussions and exchange, exploring the processes of publishing, collaboration, and dissemination whilst highlighting the wealth of resources available. 

L.I.E was first set up at in a disused commercial unit on Hobart Street, in the Millbay area of Plymouth, from 17th September to 22nd October 2011. This first iteration saw contributions from over 50 publishers, artists, and institutions spanning 14 countries worldwide such as White Columns in New York, Circuit and Nieves books in Switzerland, and Book works and Archive of Modern Conflict in London. The Library of Independent Exchange has subsequently established a growing permanent collection.

L.I.E is directed by Christopher Green and Mark James.
