During my AA2A placement at Dudley College I intend to use my journey from Derby to Dudley as a base for my project. I will be timing each journey and then setting myself timed sessions in which to create pieces of work. This will result in several pieces that represent each journey made. Over time, I may break down the journey in to parts such as walking, driving and train. I may also choose to utilise the aesthetic of a map for my art work. This idea will be encouraged and nurtured through the materials and processes I use. In order to make the work, I will be taking advantage of the sewing machines and textiles department. I have a fascination with manipulating materials and presenting them in a unique way. It is my hope that the combination of material and the visual representations of distance will create a visually striking piece of work. This placement will provide the perfect opportunity for me to create and exhibit new work. I intend to do this at the end of my time at Dudley College either on site or at an alternative venue.
I am very interested in pursuing a career in college teaching and my time at Dudley College will enable me to interact with students and give me a greater understanding of what it is like to work in further education. I hope to inspire creativity amongst the students and I look forward to running workshops which will encourage them to think and create in different ways. I hope that my presence will be as useful to them as it will be for me. There is nothing better than being surrounded by other creative individuals and learning from each other.
