Project summary:

Katrina is an artist working with plants, people and materials. Her practice focuses on local ecologies, material research and community engagement, exploring how these things can be connected through the language of colour. Deeply influenced by her Bulgarian heritage, she seeks to continue to explore how matrilineal knowledge and recipes are passed along, adapted, and utilised. Katrina is particular interested in examining her own matrilineal stories. Through this residency, Katrina will explore mark-making, textures and the interactions of natural colour, through large-scale textile works that utilise multiple processes and tactile languages. She hopes to make a body of textile works that responds to connection to nature through colour, synergised with the importance of matrilineal knowledge and how fragments of information can be brought together to create new stories and beginnings. Katrina envisages creating a series of large paintings with living colour, that shift and change over time, documenting this alchemic process and to challenge the notion of colour/material permanence, and how this speaks to the ways in which knowledge is also shared, shifts and changes over time.
