Relative Refraction

The rastering (laser etching) of imagery into clear acrylic, creates an ethereal and contemporary representation of an object or image. A unique application of the process that I initially developed for the reinterpretation of archival portrait photographs, but the technique can also re-interpret object imagery and texts. The process creates several visual planes within the perspex but ethereal, refracted images can also be viewed when lit with an LED light. By utilising the torch on a Smartphone (or a supplied torch), the viewer is able to interact with the work and create their own visual effects from the rasters.
