For over 20 years I designed posters for arts events around the UK.  I screen-printed most of these posters myself, but later I also used a commercial offset litho printerI had several exhibitions of these posters, including a North West regional tour by the Arts Council.  Examples are held in several collections, including the V&A.  A selection of my posters for rock concerts in the 1970/80s featured in a recent exhibition, “Was I there?”, at the Peter Scott Gallery at Lancaster University. Commissioners included:

In several commissions in the 2000s, I developed a series of images of plankton, entitled Just Drifting Around.  These works were produced as light projections on Morecambe promenade, web-based images for Fleetwood Museum, digital prints on translucent textile for a tour of Lancashire Museums, and digital prints on perspex for an exhibition at Oxford University Museum of Natural History in 2008. 

I was one of the group of artists who initiated Storey Gallery in Lancaster in 1991, and have managed its operation ever since, first as Co-ordinator, and then as Director. The Storey Gallery organisation has ceased to run a gallery space, and we are now working on a project about land-ownership, focussed on a plot on the edge of Lancaster known as Freeman’s Wood. 

I have not done any screen-printing for about 15 years. The AA2A placement is providing a most welcome opportunity to return to this activity.  Previously I have always used oil-based inks, so I have been improving my knowledge and skills on the use of water-based inks.  I am also trying both etching and digital printing.
