Project summary:

I am a multi disciplinary artist from a visual & live arts background. I make work in outdoor and non-traditional spaces, enjoying the direct relationship this allows with public and place. Responding to the site or subject I am addressing, considering the experience of participants and viewers, making temporary interventions and amplifying the everyday. My work has become increasingly participatory, most recently through my project Fl-utter-ances (www.janepitt.co.uk/flutterances.html ), co-devising unique sound poems, with participants, that describe their connection to and experience of public space through a 'language' based on the phonetic description of the sounds of birds living or named in the chosen locations. I create events in time with the public that contain elements that often remain ephemeral, even though the sound poems we devise together are recorded digitally and shared online. My continuing challenge is to engage in innovative and meaningful ways that express and comprehend the many layers inherent in the places we pass through and how they are perceived by us. It is always a challenge to document 'live' practice in an engaging way. AA2A offers an opportunity to reflect on and enliven this and to compile tangible documentation as a legacy of ephemeral events in time.
