Project summary:

My work begins with photography, usually of found surfaces and objects where the focus is on non-deliberate mark making and processes that create a visual effect without aesthetic consideration. Unconscious traces of previous activity.

The subject is the seen and the unseen, the visible and the ‘invisible’, what we (choose to) see and how it is presented to us. By reframing and representing the results of these processes through photography and printmaking the focus of attention is drawn to the beauty of the accidental and things just as they are. Minihistories returned to the present and brought back to life.

I have recently started working in a more experimental way with print processes in combination with photography, drawing and mark making. I have several series of images as ‘work in progress’ using photopolymer, photo etching and screen printing and I would like to progress these as well as my printmaking in general. I hope to find new approaches to making prints that will be more sympathetic to the process of printmaking, allowing the process to take over and influence the outcomes as much as my initial intentions. I hope that unexpected and accidental outcomes will lead me in new directions whilst also becoming a suitable approach to the work that I wish to make, which is itself based on accidental results and non-aesthetic intentions.
