Project summary:

I am a British Born Indian, raised in the Midlands. I work as a photographer, teacher, writer and researcher.

My photography work is firmly located within the realms of portraiture and documentary, though by using the process of socially engaged art practice I work in collaboration with my subjects. I am keen to ensure that the process of making images is empowering for the participant to the project.

During this residency I will be using the resources at DMU to think about how archives and art from the past can talk to people in the present. Alongside this work I will also be conducting workshops, interviews and taking images at the GNG football club in Leicester. GNG was established was 1969 by the Punjabi community in Leicester, and is now one of the UK’s largest amateur football clubs. During the residency I will be working with local people involved with GNG football club to produce images collaboratively. The outcome of the residency will be an exhibition and film which will be produced collaboratively with people involved in the club.

The AA2A residency at DMU will be a invaluable opportunity to help work and develop this project, and the ideas about history, race, memory and its relationship to art.
