Project summary:

 

Trained originally in Architecture and with some experiences in Performance Art, my work focuses on the space and the presence of the body. I am interested in mathematic space and geometry, in particular theories of time-space curvature, Euclidean Manifold, differential and alternative geometries, and how those can combine with a subjective and time-based experience of the physical space.

 

In past years, physics theories of Strings and Active Field have fed design projects and sketches based on the idea of the chemical continuity between body (humans), architecture (technology) and landscape (nature). Subsequently, I have collaborated with the Chemistry Department of Imperial College and Cambridge Press on a project that connects algebra and geometry, resulting in graphic diagrams synthesising 4D data. I have also recently been funded by the British Council and the European Community for a project that creates a parallel between the modification of the urban space and the chemistry-based transformations in etching processes for printmaking techniques.

 

My current project is related with the building of my studio, the Daro Factors, a dismissed factory in Hackney Wick, East London. Since setting my studio here, I have commenced an exploration of the place, in physical, historical and imaginative terms. I have “visited” remote areas of the construction (like the rooms of the old unused machines) and of the memory (like the photos of the old factory and workers, a precious archive revealed by one of the Daro workers). At the same time I am exploring theoretical text and previous experiences of body/architecture project, collecting images, essays and videos. Starting from old images of the place and my physical presence in those spaces, I am now creating new “visions”.

 

The AA2A scheme is an exciting opportunity to progress in my project and it will encourage new ways of working. It would allow me to push the boundaries of my practice. The access to facilities, the lectures programme and the interaction with others artists/students will be key factors for this development in an intense, organic way, based on dialogue and share.
