Project summary:

My project will expand my existing use of industrial and man-made materials in my sculptural and installation work by developing techniques to work on the materials themselves (as oppose to just using them straight off the shelf as I do now). In addition I will extend the use of photography which is an important part of my practice by using non digital and time based media techniques alongside my current use of digital photography.

Alongside this making part of the project I will also be undertaking a focussed period of research into the intersection of sculpture, materials and the built environment/ architecture as they particularly relate to modernism.

This project will represent an exciting new expansion of my practice resulting in a much-needed new body of work representing an opportunity to take my work and practice to the next level.

In addition I am looking forward to the opportunity to interact with and add to the students’ learning experiences. I am also keen to develop my knowledge of and contacts in York, as I have just moved to half an hour away from the city.

I intend to have a focused period of material experimentation and development alongside researching key themes in my practice which I will document (on my blog, the AA2A blog and using my very active social media channels) followed by producing and presenting a new body of work towards the end of the project.
