I am a contemporary craft practitioner based in Halifax. I graduated from Embroidery at Manchester School of Art in 2013. Through an exploration of textile and ceramic surfaces, my practice highlights the ornate beauty contained within the printed ceramic surface. Contemporary interpretations of traditional ceramic patterning, my ceramic and textile objets d’arts feature remediated patterns and imagery taken from various cultures and eras. Each series within my work celebrates the value of collections and explores the memento function of ceramic objects, through print, embroidery and water-jet cutting.
During my AA2A placement at York College I aim to return focus to my artistic development, creating new works in response to a participatory series designed during a recent residency in Madrid. This will culminate in a solo show titled “Calle de Madrid." I also intend to become involved with the college, delivering artist talks and workshops and offering textile teaching where possible. I also hope to gain new ceramic skills due to the excellent facilities available at York.
