I started working on the idea of votive offerings with the installation 'East'; male and female votives were cast in local clay directly on a row of trees extending from East to West near the 'lost' village of Ingarsby. The aim was to enter into a dialogue with the divine, whether it be a God or Nature, and our own magical ephemerality. My most recent work explores these traditional forms, negotiating between belief, spirituality, and art, extending the notion and substance of prayer in the widest sense, beyond religion. Into material forms using created objects and contemplative spaces.
