Project summary:

I am interested in printed and embroidered textiles and my most recent work has been inspired by vintage crockery. The collection was a range of luxurious aprons to bridge the gap between elegance and practicality. I wanted to make the apron more glamorous, rather than it being something that a woman just wears in the kitchen to do chores. This then led to me creating a collection that was more commercially viable but used the same colour scheme and embroidery details from the luxurious range and included aprons, peg bags and tea towels.

I would like to create a new body of work inspired by folk art and the imagery and techniques that are used within this type of imagery. Working within an art and design college would allow me to explore printing techniques further, for both paper and fabric, and develop my ideas into final products from less commercial starting points. I also want to continue to expand my mixed media techniques by combining stitch with print. The college has invested in new embroidery equipment that I would like to use and explore its capabilities. As well as having access to facilities and equipment that I don’t have, it will also support me working in an inspiring and creative environment with like minded people.

My aim is to produce a collection of printed fabrics that could be used for homewares.
