Project summary:

I am a multidisciplinary artist, the alchemy of matter is at the centre of my practice. Art history fuses with divergent forms that combine processes such as casting in sugar, deep frying, submerging in gels or oils, combining materials and methods that explore new rituals in art making. Engaging with concepts of value, taste, hierarchy and labour the space of the studio becomes a lab of material transformation, creating pairings that lead to new processes, meanings and possibilities.

Inspired by a text by Irish astronomer Agnes Mary Clerke called ‘The Inevitable Ether’ which speaks of the ether as the primal substance of all matter, I will be creating a series of works based on star explosions, making traditional etchings and intaglio prints. The work uses open source files from NASA’s database to create 3D printed renders of star explosions that are then cast into glass crystal to create a nebula sculpture wired with light. I will be using lost wax technique, metal welding, ceramics and traditional printmaking to research and complete the work.
