Andrew Meredith, Francesca Hawkesworth and Llyr Davies are emerging artists based in Plymouth. Currently enrolled on the AA2A (artists access to art colleges) scheme at Plymouth University. The scheme offers the artists access to facilities and workshops to develop their professional practice. Recently the three artists organised and exhibited work in a group show entitled ‘Shambles’ at Royal William Yard.

Grace and Mia are the AA2A student reps and second year Fine Art students at Plymouth University. Grace is currently exploring the female figure touching on themes of the male and female gaze. Mia is studying the relationship between art and language through the novel To Kill a Mockingbird. In the near future, the students will be exhibiting at Royal William Yard in their end of year show.

The AA2A project is a national set of schemes, providing artists with the opportunity to undertake a period of research or realise a project, using workshop and supporting facilities here in Plymouth University. The participating artists thus have the opportunity to use equipment which otherwise might not be available to them, as well as benefiting the institution by allowing students to work alongside, and interact with practising artists.

Plymouth University is one of a number of institutions in England hosting AA2A schemes this year. Each of our artists has at least 100 hours access, which they are using between October and May.
Although access is free, our artists are expected to engage with students and they were asked to propose ways in which their presence will benefit students e.g. lecture, demonstration and workshop. Each AA2A Artist has a webpage on ‘Dotbiz’ – the AA2A networking site, which they use to document their project through blogs and images.

This second exhibition introduces Francesca Hawkesworth, Llyr Davies and Andy Meredith, together with their student reps, Grace Jackson and Mia Evans showing their progress through the AA2A scheme in 2016/17.
