Artform:
Ceramics and print artist
Year:
2014-15
Location:
London
Influences:
Everyday urban surface; 1930s Dutch and European graphic design; Matisse paper cutouts; typefonts; block colour
Project summary:

Coming from a background of fine art printmaking, ceramics and public space intervention, I found a route into designing and making ceramic tiles in 2010. Always inspired by graphics and type, my next aim is to develop a collection of ‘alphabet tiles’ to launch into the independent craft and interiors world. The concept of these tiles is to enable the public to install their own feature wall, inscribed with a personal ethos or choice of text.

I would like the tiles to have both a hand-printed and collage element to their surface and for the collection to maintain a handmade aesthetic. I will engage in some glaze and decals testing alongside my design research. I expect to work in ‘batches’ and gradually produce the whole range of letters.
