Sculptural objects and installation

Helix Aspersa is the Latin for snail, and the latin for galaxy. Playing on the oscillation between microcosm and macrocosm, this sculptural installation was a profound exploration into theories of the sublime, the golden ratio and how things in nature are intrinsically and mathematically conected. 

Sound sculptural installation presented in the Agricola Tower of Chester castle, for Ecce Iterum, 2018.  The use of coins relates the castles history of having a former mint, and a well in the courtyard. Over the course of the exhibition, visitors threw money onto the installation to make a wish.  The sounds emanating from the objects came out of research on the topic 'Klangkunst' - music for eyes and ears, giving equal importance to seeing and hearing, taking influence from the work of Rolf Julius. The soun of coins dropping, at slightly different pitches and speeds to each other, and coming in and out of sync, was inspired by minimalist composer Steve Reich. 

Arts Council England funded commission as part of the Now Northwich festival. A one night installation combined with workshop where waste plastic objects were transformed into various new configurations. 

This piece comprises of a rusty looking chain in an abondoned sink, delicately crafted from spiders legs. 

Inspired by the work of Alice Maher in the use of nettles, the idea of them making you sting and corresponding that to where you sit on a chair, and that sense of felt innate physical response just by looking at this reframing of these two objects/materials. 

Taking inspiration from Carol Ann Duffy's poem Valentine, about an onion being a metaphor for love, and the heart, in the sense that it is formed of rings and layers, it makes you cry, etc. This jewel encrusted red onion was stabbed with sewing pins and then x-rayed, showed that this seemingly beautiful object was physically disintegrating and metaphorically in pain. 

Sound sculptural piece investigating the increasing sense of perceived overhearing/oversharing of personal information over social media platforms.  The sounds emanating from the old telephone box covered in earwigs were whispered recordings of facebook posts. 

A performance piece playing saws in trees at an exhibition in a woodland at Alvanley. The saw sounds which sounded like whale noises gently emanated through the forest and interacted with the wildlife, having some strange correspondences to the birds, and in particular a terrior dog who visited the exhibition and joined in with the playing, which then became a call and response piece between the non human viewer.
