Project summary:

Emma Britton designs decorative glass panels suitable for interiors. Inspired by optimistic florals found in British suburbia, Emma paints designs in her distinctive style. The designs translate onto 2 dimensional glass panels, exploiting and combining techniques available in modern manufacture such as sandblasting, laminating and direct digital printing. These contemporary panels can be decorative pieces of artwork or translate into products for interiors such as tabletops, splash-backs, balustrades and shower panels.

‘I will use the AA2A scheme to experiment with flocking onto glass, a technique I discovered when I was a student at Loughborough during the Printed Textiles ‘Process Project’ and have not had the opportunity to develop. Accessing the print room will also allow me to dye and print onto different fabrics and materials and test their suitability for laminating. I love painting and am keen to paint directly onto fabric again creating ‘one off’ pieces which can then be laminated into glass and worked into with other techniques. Although my glass designs have a professional industrial finish which is suitable for its intended use, I think hand screen printing can only enhance my work. I hope to discover new processes of working and add them to my collection ready to be exhibited at Trade Fairs and Exhibitions in 2011.’
