Project summary:

Recently I have made paintings, drawings and site-specific wall paintings which consider issues of physical and emotional engagement with known territories and spaces. I am interested in using local architecture including modernist and post-war buildings as a starting point to develop my ideas around colour and space.

In 2015 I completed a painting series Locker Series which I made during my AA2A residency in 2014/15. This work explores the design of the teak storage lockers located within Teesside University’s Constantine Building which was built in 1930.

I would like to continue looking at other interior and exterior characteristics/features of the Constantine building, specifically looking at the design and materials used on/in the building including wood, concrete and metal.

The work will consider the shape of the painting panels and possible exploration of painting surfaces e.g. metal, wood and concrete so having the use of the wood construction and sculpture facilities would enable me to make some shaped panels including triangular and carry out some ideas I have developing my painting practice with regards to the surfaces I will paint upon.

I aim to make a new painting series and body of work that will include photographs, drawings, marquettes and finished paintings.
