tests and trials

work in progress mezzotint experiments mezzotint experiments

More mezzotint experiments, this time with a larger plate and using A4 white computer printing paper. Thinking of using the most basic and familiar sort of paper (the most democratic? The least 'fine art' related?) which gave a less clear print, however the slight buckle in the paper as it dried was what i was after - planning to create a stack of mezzotints which becomes a sculptural presence in the gallery and which can then be interacted with by the public. When will i have the time to make so many mezzotint prints?!

Taken home an even larger plate to be rocked. This time to create an image which will be completed, then partially rocked out (erased back to black). Copies (either mezzotints or photocopies) will then be used in the RADAR gallery space at Loughborough at the end of May during our group show. I'll be inviting visitors to draw onto these prints using white ink. It's all experimental, much unknown, but it feels like a safe space to test these ideas.

The wheels meanwhile are waiting for the 16th May, when i'll be using the fine art gallery at Loughborough for a participatory piece, inviting students and staff to make their own paperclay wheel and then alter it to prevent it from rolling. Again time contraints are limiting the amount of paperclay i can make and therefore the number of wheels, but as a trial of an element of this body of work it should be a useful process.
