Project summary:

I graduated from Bath Spa University in 2008 with a first class degree in fashion and Textiles Design, specialising in print. Since graduating I have exhibited my work at numerous galleries and been developing a range of products for interiors.

Being part of the AA2A programme at Hereford College of Art will enable me to create a body of work that pushes and develops me as an artist and designer. My initial aim is to create a range of samples as initial research in order to create larger pieces using mixed media for the interiors market such as wallpapers and furnishings. The work will stem from earlier research of fusing conflicting shapes, spaces and patterns in to sample pieces that can then be applied to a commercial product. What interests me most is how pattern, shape and colour can work together and travel around a space or form; this is something I wish to investigate further. This research and design will then be applied to products for interiors, looking at a whole space and how objects work together.

As an initial starting point I will be looking at imagery from a range of everyday, often overlooked sources and creating patterns from these. One key element in this is studying geometric patterns and merging them with organic imagery. I will be combining a range of methods for this – from screen and digital print to embroidery and wood-work using materials varying from paper and wood to fabric. I wish to take my work from initial drawings, through to final designs and packaged ready for market.

This programme will be a huge opportunity to utilise facilities, expertise and the art college environment in order to push myself further and continue to further myself.
