I graduated from BCU in 2008, with a First Class Honours Degree in Visual Art. I work mainly with handmade felted materials to create small to large scale sculptural works, which are shown as one off pieces, installations and site specific and wearable pieces.
During the past three years, I have worked collaboratively to develop my sculptures into wearable pieces, which have been explored through site-specific performances and theatre. Recently, I have been working with the theatre company Stan's Cafe, exploring how pieces made for one setting, can be re-contextualised, to change both the works themselves and the narratives that they spark, fascinating subject and one that I know I will explore further.
So, from sculptures, installations, digital media, collaborative site specific performances and theatre, the past 8 years have been spent developing my practice further into performance, theatre and large scale site specific installations, with a tentative and exciting dip into interactive work during 2008.
Loughborough gave me a brief window of opportunity to explore Laser techniques and the impact upon the materials that I work with. I had grand ideas, but of course, the reality of the situation, isn't always that simple. My explorations have enabled me to see the value of this type of work and also helps me to realise the value of incorporating new materials in the equation as well. This is something that is still on the drawing board, as obviously we are not all blessed with a laser cutter! However, I have put out the feelers and have found an organisation, who may allow me to use their facilties, lets see!
