DeborahSuzanne Lander is a multi-disciplinary artist-curator specialising in time-based works.
I graduated master of fine art at Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge with distinction 2021. I describe myself as a scavenger, storyteller and archivist who is fascinated by the number three and it’s significance to humanity and to science. I use narratives to traverse the realms of rituals, myths, and religions, in an increasingly secular society, as well as being a supporter of the concept of death-positivity.
My creative practice continues with film and photography work in a Fine Art context, exploring the mind, memory and human connections. I have an interest in the silent film era and how it can be relevant to the contemporary art of today. My research is focused on practice-based methodologies as I questions what it means to be 'human'.
With a love of ethical, rogue taxidermy, along with Vanitas imagery and the concept of the memento mori, I experiment with appropriated objects, video and assemblage. I construct installations with an interest in sculpture, ink drawings, photography and 3D Printing. My current research looks at combining 3D resin prints, gaming and AI with more traditional fine art practices.
During my time on the AA2A scheme I aim to build on the idea of how these contemporary practices might enhance or change more traditional mediums in the future. I will look towards creating a utopian/dystopian view of reality in an exhibition through my practice based research at ARU.
