Project summary:

Becoming - an exploration of transformation

i am exploring the transformations we experience as part of life and ageing, influenced by my own menopausal transformation.

I use a range of materials and characters to assist me in my explorations and enquiries. I have worked under my performance name of MsDMeanar, and in this character, I play around with performative acts, looking for ways to transform myself. This has led me to explore ancient and habitual traditions and rituals that help improve health or make change in our lives. During the acts, I often use materials that themselves transform and whose states are altered in a form of alchemy.

Debbie Doodar is the name I use when fabricating items and ideas for MsDMeanar to play with. As Debbie Doodar I have reconstructed; garments; hoarded fabrics; and found items to make soft sculptures for MsDMeanar to use during the performative actions.

What remains of these performative actions and collaborations are, the documents I produce using photomontage and printmaking resulting in a series of self-portraits, supported by the associated props and fabrications.
