Project summary:

Project 1  Text Landscape print/book  - This is an ongoing series of prints and artists’ books created on residencies that typographically explore response to that particular place and landscape. This would be the fifth iteration of the series and would use Bradford as the source material for the work: oral histories, conversations, my photographs of the city, street signage and more. I find this a valuable way to explore the opportunity to work in a different studio environment, challenge my practice and create a new work.

Project 2  MEHRFACH artists’ book  - I have been working on a print series - ‘MEHRFACH’ (literally, ‘more subject‘in German) - in my own studio exploring my daughter’s acquisition of language from a baby to the 3.5 year-old she is now. The print series is an ongoing project, but I would like the opportunity to create a larger scale artists’ book that explores the work further. The print series so far explores what effect multiple overprintings from moveable type have on legibility and understanding. I would like to expand this by not only overprinting multiple pages repeatedly, but by drawing in other elements such as collagraph and lasercut. The book will involve a significant amount of R&D work and it is largely this that will benefit my work. Being able to spend a dedicated and immersive amount of time in a well-equipped studio complex is a great opportunity to move my work in new directions.
