Previous AA2A Artist

Daniel Simcox

Artform:
During the AA2A program I would like to develop a series of works themed around mortality and the inevitability of death which stems from previous work I creating with film and found footage. I have already begun developing pieces surrounding this theme such as ‘Era’ which is a Video artwork presented on a mobile telephone and explores the vulnerability of an elderly person, seclusion and detachment.

Project summary:

As an interdisciplinary artist my work has taken many forms and I have used numerous forms of media including photography, analogue video, film, performance and installation art. Responding to my surroundings past inspiration has come from obsolete media which has become, or is becoming, lost. As the digital revolution coincided with my teenage years it pushed film and video into obscurity and left me with a sense of loss. Previously my work has utilising found footage film and slide transparencies that have been lost or discarded. I re-frame, re-negotiate and re-present the footage in a way that observes the media as a physical object as well as captured moments in time.
