Project summary:

My work is highly personal and explores themes surrounding my own views and concerns with life, identity, self-expression and emotion. The snapshot and its value in contemporary culture are of particular interest to me.  I consider myself an ‘obsessive’ photographer and I collate large amounts of personal images.  I have recently returned from completing the initial stage of a self-initiated project exploring life on board a cruise ship as photographer e.  I intend use the facilities at Northumbria to scan and digitally prepare the large amount of digital and film images  I have produced which describe my life and experiences during this time, for the production of a photo book and exhibition.

I believe experimentation is vital to producing an original and considered piece of artwork. With the great facilities at Northumbria I feel I could pursue ideas further and experiment with layout for my book design freely, which is something that I am unable to achieve when working in my home studio.  I am currently limited by my access to facilities and feel the AA2A scheme will enable me to use my time more efficiently in producing a professional body of work.  The facilities will allow me to edit and construct a valuable and professional body of work.

I am thankful of the opportunity to continue research in an environment that encourages learning and development and value the input from lecturers and students on campus that may inspire and further inform my own work.   I aim to produce a body of work from film and digital images already collected, which I will present as a photo book and exhibition.  I would also like to become more involved with the students and give back to the university by offering my help  assisting with upcoming exhibitions and degree shows whilst also making myself available for group tutorials and helping in the digital suite.
